Overview
Goldcast is a web-based platform, and therefore your internet and network connection play a crucial role in determining the user experience.
Some common problems in Goldcast associated with an unstable internet connection include the following:
- Unable to join sessions
- Getting disconnected from ongoing sessions
- No audio or video
- Audio lags
- Blurry, choppy or pixelated video
- Difficulties in accessing platform functionalities such as the microphone, camera, chat, polls, or Q&A
If you encounter any of these issues while joining a Goldcast event, the root cause might be your firewall or virtual proxy network (VPN) settings. In this article, we walk you through troubleshooting guidelines so you can ensure that Goldcast’s functionalities work seamlessly with a VPN or firewall.
Disconnect from VPN
A VPN allows greater privacy while accessing the internet. However, it might lead to unstable internet connectivity issues that could cause Goldcast events to lag, slow down, or function improperly. So, if you’re connected to a VPN, we recommend turning it off during your Goldcast events.
Whitelist Goldcast domains
Sometimes, it might not be possible to disconnect the VPN or bypass the firewall, as companies prefer to route their network traffic through firewalls or VPNs for privacy and security reasons.
In such cases, a workaround is to whitelist the following Goldcast domains and ports in your firewall/VPN settings. Here is a breakdown of the URLs and ports to whitelist while using Goldcast:
Backend
*.goldcast.io |
This is our main domain. None of Goldcast’s events would work without unblocking it. |
goldcast.zendesk.com | Our bot for real-time support during your events. |
fonts.googleapis.com | Font files. A block on this domain could cause minor to severe unintended issues, such as the event app not loading. |
Our authentication services. A block on these domains could prevent users from logging in, making the product unusable.
9bncwz5as7.execute-api.us-east-1.amazonaws.com | Our data logging service. A block on it prevents us from tracking user data on attendance, watch times, etc. |
d6d4ismr40iw.cloudfront.net | Our Content Delivery Network (CDN). A block on this domain could prevent users from seeing recorded, buffer, booth, or non-live videos. |
s3.amazonaws.com/staticassets.goldcast.com | Another type of CDN. A block on it could prevent users from seeing static images, branding, booth and room images, etc. |
Our socket server. A block on it could prevent real-time interactions such as chat, P2P messages, polls, etc.
*.addevent.com | A block on it could prevent calendar invite functionalities. |
A block on it could prevent file upload functionalities. |
Platform engagement
*.giphy.com | A block on this prevents gifs in chats. |
|
For WebRTC streaming. A block on this could prevent real-time audio and video streaming. |
Logging
Logrocket is a tool we use for monitoring your sessions. A block on this prevents us from debugging user issues. |
Destination ports
Destination ports | Port type | Operation |
