The Q&A feature allows event attendees, speakers & organizers to submit questions to presenters during their sessions. These questions are located under the Q&A tab on the Engagement Panel and can be submitted in text or video format.
When there's a red dot next to this tab, that means either a text or video question has been submitted. To find both, click on the Q&A tab to the right of your screen. You'll then be able to either click "Text Q&A" or "Video Q&A" to view the submitted questions.
Enable or Disable Text or Video Q&A
This can be turned off on a session-by-session basis. To do this:
- Log in to Goldcast Studio with your credentials.
- Click the hamburger icon
on the top left, and select the Events tab to get a list of all your events.
- From the Events list, click the event you want to edit.
- Click Program in the menu on the left side of the screen.
- In the center of the screen, you can see the list of sessions for the event. Click the session you’d like to edit. This opens the Edit Session Details popup.
- Scroll down to the Q&A section and click the arrow on the left side to open it.
- Turn on or off the Text Q&A and Video Q&A settings.
- Click Save in the upper right corner of the screen.
Text Q&A
Goldcast supports two types of text Q&A - moderated and unmoderated.
Moderated Text Q&A
The Moderate Q&A parameter allows organizers & speakers to view and approve submitted questions prior to letting attendees view and upvote them.
To enable or disable moderated Q&A:
- Login to Goldcast Studio and click the hamburger icon
on the top left, and select the Events tab to get a list of all your events.
- From the Events list, click the event you want to edit.
- Click the Look & Feel section on the left of the screen.
- Scroll to Engagement & Communication and click to open the section.
- Scroll to Chat Experience and click to open the section.
- Turn on or off the Moderate Q&A setting.
- Click Save in the upper right corner of the screen.
Organizers or Speakers need to approve questions before they are made visible to all attendees.
However, organizers/speakers can also directly answer the question with an inline text without approving the question. In such cases, question & answer will be only visible to the user who asked the question.
Unmoderated Text Q&A
In unmoderated text Q&A, the organizer/speaker doesn't need to approve a question before it is made visible to all attendees.
Managing Text Q&A
Answering a Question
Organizer & Speakers can answer a text question in following manner:
Live on stage: Organizers/speakers can answer a question verbally live on stage. Once the question has been answered on stage, it can be marked as answered in the Q&A tab as well.
With Inline text: Questions submitted can also be responded to via text that will be visible to attendees directly under the question. To enter a text response, click Answer next to the question, then enter your response, then click “Submit Answer.”
Pro Tips:
-
- You can edit your answer by clicking "Edit" icon
- Goldcast reveals the answerer's identity while responding to questions with inline text. If you don't want to disclose the answerer's identity to attendees, you can disable this setting in the Studio. However, answerer's identity will always be visible to speakers & organizers in the session
To enable or disable this setting:
- Login to Goldcast Studio and click the hamburger icon
on the top left, and select the Events tab to get a list of all your events.
- From the Events list, click the event you want to edit.
- Click the Look & Feel section on the left side of the screen.
- Scroll to Stage Communication and click to open the section.
- Scroll to Chat Experience and click to open the section.
- Turn on or off the Show Answerer’s Identity setting.
- Click Save in the upper right corner of the screen.
Use Aliases while answering Q&A
When Show Answerer’s Identify is enabled, organizers can choose to use a different name or "Alias" while answering if they don't wish to disclose the real identity of the answerer. This "Alias" will be shown only to attendees - speakers and organizers will still be able to see who has answered the question. This can be helpful if you have multiple moderators and you’d prefer to have the answer come from your “Events Team” or “Company Team.”
To select an alias:
- Login to Goldcast Studio and click the hamburger icon
on the top left, and select the Events tab to get a list of all your events.
- From the Events list, click the event you want to edit.
- Click the Look & Feel section on the left of the screen.
- Scroll to Stage Communication and click to open the section.
- Scroll to Chat Experience and click to open the section.
- Turn on the Show Answerer’s Identity setting.
- Enter the alias in the Answerer’s Alias text box.
- Click Save in the upper right corner of the screen.
Sharing a question on stage
For Text Q&A, if you see a question that you like - and you want attendees to see the question on screen while you answer - click "Share" next to the question.
The text will then appear on the screen for attendees to see.
In case something else is already shared on stage, like slides or the speaker is sharing their screen then Q&A will be shared in the lower third part of stage.
Managing list using filters & sorting
Sometimes it can become difficult to manage a lot of questions. You can filter and sort your view to more quickly find the questions you want to answer. The following options are available for filtering & sorting the text Q&As:
- Filter
- All
- Prioritised
- Approved (When moderated Q&A is turned on)
- Unapproved (When moderated Q&A is turned on)
- Answered
- Unanswered
- My Questions
- Sorting
- Most Recent
- Most Upvoted
Prioritizing Questions
Sometimes, due to time constraints during a live event it is not possible to answer all questions asked by attendees. To prioritize a question click 3 dots > Mark as Priority
Once a question is marked as priority, a star icon will be added to the question.
Note: Prioritized questions will only be visible to organizers & speakers of the session. Attendees won't be able to see prioritized questions
Pro tip: Filter your Q&A list by "Prioritized" to only see prioritized questions for the session.
Deleting Questions
Organizers & speakers can delete a question from the list of text Q&A. To delete a question, click 3 dots > Delete
Asking questions anonymously
If organizers have allowed users to post questions anonymously then users can post a question without sharing their identity. To ask questions anonymously, check the "Hide Name" toggle & then submit the question.
To enable or disable asking questions anonymously:
- Login to Goldcast Studio and click the hamburger icon
on the top left, and select the Events tab to get a list of all your events.
- From the Events list, click the event you want to edit.
- Click the Look & Feel section on the left of the screen.
- Scroll to Stage Communication and click to open the section.
- Scroll to Chat Experience and click to open the section.
- Turn on or off the Anonymous Text Q&A setting.
- Click Save in the upper right corner of the screen.
Pushing Chats to Q&A
If an attendee has asked a question in the chat tab, speakers & organizers can convert the chat message to Q&A. Once the chat message is converted to Q&A, it will appear in the Q&A tab.
In case of multi-session event, only chat messages in "Session" chats can be converted to Q&A.
Note: In case of moderated Q&A, converted chat messages will be auto approved.
Video Q&A
Video Q&A enables event attendees to join presenters on stage to ask their question live on video. To ask a question live, an attendee can click “Raise Hand.” Organizers and speakers then have the option to approve or reject the questioner.
To view who has raised their hands, in the Q&A tab, choose “Video Q&A.” (Note: if no one has asked a question, both tabs will be empty underneath.)
You can then click the button “Approve” here, to promote the attendee to join you on video.
Once you are done chatting with the attendee on stage, you can have the attendee leave stage by clicking “END" next to the attendees' name on the sidebar (where you clicked Approve, as pictured above).
