Heads up! This feature is currently in Beta. To learn more, contact your CSM or our Sales Team.
Introduction
Content Lab now shows dead space and micro pauses directly in the transcript. This helps you identify silent or low-value sections in your video more quickly, including pauses shorter than 500 milliseconds.
You can optimize one pause at a time or optimize all detected pauses at once. Instead of deleting the exact pause duration, Goldcast shortens the pause intelligently so the edit sounds more natural and less abrupt.
This feature is available for all video types in Content Lab, including full videos and clips.
Before you begin
Before using this feature:
- Open the video in Content Lab.
- Go to the transcript panel.
- Review the detected pauses shown in the transcript with their durations.
How pause optimization works
Pause optimization is different from a standard delete action.
When you optimize a pause, Goldcast does not remove the exact detected duration. Instead, it uses internal logic to shorten the pause to a length that sounds more natural in playback.
Because the optimized result may not always match your preference, you can restore an individual pause or restore all optimized pauses after reviewing the edit.
Step-by-Step Guide to Optimize All Pauses
To optimize all detected pauses in the transcript:
- Log in to Goldcast Studio.
- Open the video in Content Lab.
- In the transcript, review the detected pauses and their durations.
- Click Optimize all.

- Preview the updated video to confirm that the pacing sounds right.
Step-by-Step Guide to Optimize a Single Pause
To optimize one pause:
- Open the video transcript in Content Lab.
- Find the pause you want to adjust.
- Apply the optimization action for that individual pause.

- Preview the change in the video.
Restore a Pause
If an optimized pause sounds too short or feels unnatural, you can undo the edit.
To restore a pause:
- Open the edited video in Content Lab.
- Restore the individual pause you want to bring back, or click Restore all to undo all optimized pauses.

- Review playback again to confirm the result.
Publish Your Changes
While you are editing in Content Lab, the changes appear immediately in the editor.
If you are editing a webinar video and want the changes to appear on the webinar's on-demand page, click Publish after completing your edits. The updates appear on the on-demand experience only after you publish the video.

- The transcript can display dead space and micro pauses directly in the editor.
- Pauses shorter than 500 milliseconds can also appear in the transcript.

- You can restore one pause or all pauses after reviewing the result.
FAQs
Q1: What is the difference between optimizing a pause and deleting it?
Optimizing a pause is not the same as deleting the exact detected duration. Goldcast shortens the pause using internal logic so the result sounds smoother and less abrupt.
Q2: Can I undo a pause optimization?
Yes. You can restore an individual pause or restore all optimized pauses after reviewing the result.
Q3: Can I preview the result before finalizing it?
Yes. You can review the updated playback after optimizing pauses and decide whether to keep the edit or restore it.
Q4: Do I need to publish the video after making these changes?
If you edit a webinar video and want the updated version to appear in the webinar’s on-demand experience, you must click Publish. Similarly, if you want the updated version of videos to appear in the video library, you must click Publish.
Q5: Does this work for clips, too?
Yes. This workflow is intended for both full videos and clips.
